In exploring the role of father involvement in the relationship between daycare and children's behavior, the main focus is on social and developmental psychologies. Social psychology is examined by children's behavior and responses, while developmental psychology is examined by behavior after much time spent with parents. The researchers wondered whether the amount of time a child spent with his father was related to his misbehavior in the school environment. The study they conducted gave mixed results where it is possible that these behavioral problems can be attributed to the father and his involvement in the child's life. At the beginning of the article, the researchers discussed that as more women started joining the workforce, the way a child was raised changed. They discussed Belsky's essay, written in 1986, in which he explained that children placed in day care during their first year would be considered at risk for hesitant attachment. Apparently it was believed that the child's behavior was based on the time spent with the mother. The research on this theory was that both time spent with the mother and time spent in a daycare had positive and negative aspects. They found that children exposed to non-maternal care had a tendency to have a higher cognitive level, but the risk of the child spending too much time in this environment would lead to defiance and other behavioral problems. This particular study hypothesized that during the amount of time spent with the father more behavioral problems with the child occurred, which had never been questioned previously. During the other studies, father involvement and assistance were considered as alternatives. To measure this, r...... half of the paper ...... that these findings and procedures are steps in the right direction for understanding behavioral problems in children and that the father has a relationship with the child's development. They also suggest that it is important to examine both parents' perceptions of their father's responsibilities as a caregiver. The researchers offer suggestions to therapists working with families with young children. They also discuss suggestions of different scenarios where parents have distinguished their role as caregiver or not and provide examples of what might happen. Works Cited Levant, R.
