According to lenntech.com “Water pollution is any chemical, physical, or biological change in the quality of water that has a harmful effect on any living thing that drinks, uses, or lives (in) it” (“What is water pollution” 1) . Water pollution is not only dangerous for humans but also very dangerous for our ecosystems. Fish, plants, water and other organisms live in our ecosystems. This type of pollution is not only harming them now, but will continue to harm them in the future. There are many ways in which water pollution is harming our ecosystem, whether it is oil spills, marine discharges, nuclear waste or air pollution. all of this damages the water. Leaks from underground storages play a role, yes, they are useful in many ways, but they are also very harmful. “Over time, steel corrodes and causes leaks, affecting soil and groundwater” (“Underground Storage Leaks” 1). Another important factor of water pollution is marine discharge. Marine dumping is the dumping of waste into the sea (“Marine Dumping” 1). Many people don't really understand how dangerous this can be for them and their future. According to water-pollution.org “Litter items, such as a 6-pack ring binder, can become trapped in marine animals and can cause death.” Not only does marine discharge harm animals, but also the atmosphere of that animal's habitat. For example, cardboard disposed of in ecosystems takes two weeks to degrade, while aluminum takes 200 years to degrade (“Underground Storage Leaks” 3).
