The above examples are all examples of the struggle Kozol seems to be trying to get teachers to find. There are several references to war, as in the first chapter when he calls teachers “intellectual guerrillas” (Kozol, 3). Teachers fight to keep their students' attention with sneak attacks. In chapter eight, Kozol advises teachers to put leadership in the hands of their students regardless of the feelings of the administration (Kozol, 55). While it can be a wonderful lesson and teaching tool, teachers are not the only ones who have an interest in educating young people. Administrations may attempt to block some teacher actions for no reason other than the diverse student body. Parents may not want their students to learn these behaviors. In the second part, Kozol advocates for teachers to organize with parents and other teachers to rise up against the public school system. If this is truly what is best for students and what parents want, a rebellion is what the system needs. However, the rebellion will be complicated. I will inevitably interrupt classroom learning. Freedom of personal opinions should not be to the detriment of the student
