Intermediate Portfolio Communication ethics challenges personal narratives about what is good, bad, right, and wrong. It makes us question communication and observe not only what drives us to do what we do, but also what drives the other person in a communication situation. Ethics determine how we approach situations, react to events, and ultimately carry out our daily routines. The purpose of COM 380 Communication Ethics is to be able to successfully implement ethical communication in both our public and private lives. This course has a question that needs to be determined; “What is ethical communication literacy and how does it affect the role of ethics in our communication and interaction?” This question makes us learn as individuals by actively listening to other people and engaging with the idea of diversity of ideas. First of all I feel like I have learned a lot during this period of time and I understand the idea of a two-sided approach to every situation. In every interaction each person involved understands that the other person has a different set of values and assets that may conflict with yours, however conflicting assets are not a bad thing but simply provide an opportunity to learn. (put a quote from the conflict text here). Learning is the most essential part of communication and shows that you can process multiple ideas at once and not judge but also try to understand where another person's ideas come from. People have their own reasons and narratives that determine what they believe their assets are and why they protect them. Each person's possessions are representative of their culture. Culture is a collection of styles, patterns, and perceptions learned from history that continue… middle of the paper… phew, the two weekly assignments that are due, ethics in news, and chapter questions are very opposite in votes. I did well with the chapter questions and I feel this is the case because I find them very challenging and they help me understand the concept better. However, my ethics on journalistic assignments have been less than satisfactory. I have performed poorly and find them difficult and frustrating to complete. I often spend a long period of time searching for articles but can't find a direct ethical issue involved and I'm not sure why this is the case. I also feel like I don't do as well at reporting assignments because I don't fully understand the idea of defining an asset. I know that an asset is a central value that is always protected, it is unique for each person and can change in different situations.
