Concert criticismConcert criticism (essay, 500 words, typed). Attend a public classical music concert during this course. Write a review or criticism based on your experience. Include your response as a listener to "live" presentations of various repertoire; the circumstances and context in which the service took place; and to artists. Evaluate them in terms of personal growth and the validity of the artistic experience itself. The performance must be "classical" music from any era, preferably that discussed in class. Sunday 4 May 2014 is a day that I will always have nostalgic memories of because I didn't know that attending a concert for a school assignment would be an experience that changed my life. I attended a concert performed by Symphony Nova Scotia. What made it even more fascinating was that I had never attended a musical concert with so many instruments and performers. The concert opened with the director introducing the pieces to be performed. In an atmosphere as serene as possible, the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in the Dalhousie Art Center Symphony Nova Scotia, was packed with an audience as beautiful as one could imagine. On stage was an array of beautifully dressed musicians, both male and female; they all wore black except the soloist who was a paragon of elegance in her performance evening dress. It was a spectacular sight to see. What made the atmosphere more spectacular were the artists of Symphony Nova Scotia. There were different musical instruments: large and small, short and tall. Although I didn't know the names of all of them, the ones I could easily identify were violins, drums, large and tall guitars, trombone, cello, trumpets, large drums, among others... middle of paper... ...I can speak on behalf of the audience for the deafening applause received by the artists at the end of the concert and when the soloist was given a bouquet of flowers. We were all standing. The atmosphere was professional. I always thought orchestral music was old-fashioned and colloquial. Now I realize that the concepts, style and plot that we have studied in class over the last few weeks were perfectly represented in the concert. My only regret was that I wasn't allowed to photograph the performers on stage; nor was I allowed to record the concert for later enjoyment. The performance was exceptional. I had a great time and look forward to the next concerts. I didn't know I could attend the concert, but I did and I wanted more. I don't know what a pro will say, but for me the concert was phenomenal for my beginner standards.
