The story "Nipple Jesus" is a work of contemporary British fiction by Nick Hornby. This story features many important themes such as religion and sexuality, illusion and intolerance. However, perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the story is the character exploration and development of the narrator, Dave. The story begins with Dave telling the reader a little about himself and his old job as a nightclub bouncer. He appears to be an average forty year old; he talks about providing for his family, playing with his kids, drinking with his friends, and watching Fraiser. However, over the course of the story, the reader gets an increasingly deeper look into Dave's mind. Dave has a new job: working as a security guard at an art gallery. One exhibition in particular is assigned to him: a work entitled “Nipple Jesus”. At first glance, Dave believes it is a painting of Jesus on the cross.
