On June 26, 2015, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the United States Constitution guarantees the right to marry for same-sex couples. Many conservative groups do NOT agree with this decision. The gay marriage debate has been simmering for as long as I can remember. The four articles I selected provide information from four different perspectives, including that of liberals, conservatives, homosexuals, and Orthodox Jews. With so many differing opinions, one can understand why it has been so difficult for the nation to agree on this issue. In an article titled “Witch Hunts in the Golden State,” David N. Bass sheds some light on his opinion. -Sex marriage activists use senseless methods to defend their cause. According to the article, the US 9th Circuit of Appeals has received a request from two same-sex couples that would force anti-gay marriage activists to make public their private communications during the campaign. This, according to the lawyer of the two homosexual couples, would make it clear that the campaign against same-sex marriage has used an unfair method to invoke the fear that both traditional marriage and society as a whole would collapse if gay marriage were allowed. On the other hand, lawyers for traditional marriage advocates believe that being forced to disclose their internal communications during the Proposition 8 campaign would constitute a violation of free speech and the unwritten rules of politics. The author goes on to say that gay marriage activists are hypocrites because they too have had their share of "unfair" political campaigning methods. He claims that the Proposition 8 campaign was extraordinarily open and that all their methodologies to f...... half of the document ......y 42 years ago, when I was not allowed to marry another person to cause they were a different race. The thought of restricting marriage on the basis of race is completely unimaginable today. And 42 years later, I hope that even the thought of restricting marriage on the basis of sexual orientation is unfathomable.
