Topic > Convergence of the Internet and Technology - 1269

Cisco CEO is indeed knowledgeable, as expected. Convergence is exactly the direction the Internet is going, but it is also a divergence. That is, billions of devices will be constantly connected to the Internet, and the Internet will be spread across all these connected devices. So we will have pages stored on servers, plus desktops, and billions of smartphones, laptops, and tablets that contain the current information available on the Internet at any given time, plus billions of other tiny embedded chips that communicate with myriads of other chips to control the our environments and simplify our lives. This means that we will live in a hypermedia world, and this will affect every corner of every aspect of our lives. The connection of billions of sites with social networks has been happening for some time now. Every commercial site wants to take advantage of social networking logins and asks visitors to “like” them or log in using FaceBook or other social networking logins. The next step will be to connect devices beyond smartphones and tablets, such as chips embedded in household appliances, cars and building systems (Research). Social and mechanical data will travel the same routes synchronizing and improving the world. Literally every working machine will have a chip to send and receive data over the Internet. Devices that control home environments and appliances will be just part of the mix. Media giants are planning to converge with their audiences. Voice controls will be everywhere, and libraries of books, magazines, videos, and movies will already be stored in the cloud for universal access. These are all available on home computers, tables, laptops, smartphones and smart TVs. Pretty much anything with a screen… means paper… as stress seems to accompany technological development and the speed of change. Perhaps the most important skill will still be a sense of humor.
