Two of the most influential people in all of religious history would have been Jesus or Muhammad. From the moment of their birth and well beyond their deaths, they were both solely responsible for the founding and continuation of their respective religions. In the year 6 BCE (before the Common Era), God's son Jesus Christ was born near the city of Bethlehem. (Fisher, 2006) Nearly 600 years later, the future prophet Muhammad was born in the city of Mecca. The religious influences and experiences of these two people shaped the future of both religions. What follows is a look at the lives of these two men and the impact of their deaths. A comparison will also take place between how both men influenced their religions and also how they are revered and worshiped in today's societies. All this will try to explain how the preaching and messages that these two men tried to convey to their followers are followed today. A look at the historical life of Jesus Christ reveals that he was born to the Virgin Mary and her father Joseph in the year 6 BCE. His birth occurred during the Judean reign of King Herod. (Fisher, 2006) There is not much written history regarding Jesus' early years until he was about 24 years old. Jesus was a simple carpenter known for his fierce devotion to the Lord. He began preaching publicly at about the age of 25. (Fisher, 2006) This period of his life was very successful, he was suitable for healing the sick and exercising demons. During a pilgrimage to Nazareth, Jesus is said to have been baptized by John, who later became one of Jesus' apostles. This event marked the beginning of Jesus' public life and raised his preaching to a higher level of interest both among his followers and among his detractors. (Maas, 2003) Shortly before the first Passover of his life, Jesus entered the Temple of Jerusalem and abruptly chased away the buyers and merchants who had long been accustomed to buying and selling their goods in the sacred Temple. The death and eventual resurrection of Jesus Christ, which occurred the day after the Last Supper, was an important point in the Christian religion. Both events had a notable impact on religion, while the resurrection of Jesus is considered the most memorable historical event in religious theater.
