Psychoanalytic, Feminist, and Cultural Perspectives in Dr. FaustusChristopher Marlowe's acclaimed Doctor Faustus uses many rhetorical methods to bring its plot and plot to life. Obviously psychoanalytic methods are used, as are some aspects of the feminist method, which are a little less obvious, but no less important are the cultural background issues that come into play. These three methods help smooth out the edges and round off the edges of this complex journey into the fictional life of a highly educated man who seems to have everything he needs. From a psychoanalytic point of view, the battles between the id and the superego of Dr. Faustus cause serious disturbances in his moral conscience. This is evident in the text by the drumming of the two angels, one holy and the other evil. He even consciously fights with his Id, when he cries, "O Christ, my savior, my savior!
