With all the problems going on today with gun violence on television and political advocates against guns. The question I've always wanted to ask is, "everyone's horrible things they say about guns are true." Are guns really a danger or is it a fabrication? Violence is prominent in society. Politicians argue that we settle disputes through dialogue and negotiations. However, the truth is that most conflicts ultimately end with the pointing of a weapon. Most argue that it is for hunting or pleasure (skeet shooting or targets). Although I believe many people consider it to be an effective form of defense. People are extremely scared of what is on the other side of their front door of what may be happening in their home. While I was growing up, I never had one gun in the house. My parents were against having a gun in the house. From an early age they told me that guns were dangerous to anyone if they had one. I never took a stand on the issue of gun control laws. There are many pros and cons on both sides of the issue, therefore, I have chosen to highlight the positive and negative aspects of guns. I first encountered guns when I married my husband, a retired military noncommissioned officer, who avidly collects guns for his own collection. Having served in many conflicts over the past 20 years, my husband was known for being the best gunner on the Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicle. My husband agrees with current gun control laws and my perspective has changed on the positives and negatives of what needs to be done with guns now. The first part of my research took place at the local gun shop in Shelton. I walked into the store looking around and saw all the differences... middle of paper....... The idea of fear is that people are not educated and don't know enough to understand the purpose of having one pistol. My whole life I was taught that firearms were evil and dangerous. The fear behind this made me look over my shoulder and run in other directions when it came to getting close to a gun. Having had the experience of using and shooting a gun, I understand that the gun can be useful, but only with proper instruction and handling. It is a tool just like any other tool, like a knife, that can be misused. However, we should trust that sane, law-abiding citizens are making the decision about the dangers and practicality of owning a gun, not our politicians. Fear can be defeated by understanding what's beyond the hype. If you are afraid of firearms, I challenge you to understand them by going to a range to try one out and maybe you might change your mind.
