The character of Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams is a classic work about Blanche Dubois's visit to the Elysian Fields and her encounters with the sister of her barbarian husband, Stanley Kowalski. Stanley Kowalski is a very brutal person who always has to feel like he is better than everyone else. His brutal actions throughout the show leave readers with a bad taste in their mouths. Stanley Kowalski's brutality is clearly exemplified at several points throughout the show: first, with the poker night radio episode; later, when he beats his wife, Stella, and, finally, when he rapes Blanche. Stanley Kowalski's first display of his brutal actions occurs during poker night. Blanche turns on the radio, but Stanley asks her to turn it off. Blanche refuses and so Stanley gets up and turns it off himself.
