To figure out how to solve the problem of gun violence, many turn to gun control as their only hope of achieving this goal. Some may ask: What is gun control? Gun control is generally a set of laws that aim to limit or regulate the sale, purchase, or possession of firearms through licensing, registration, or identification requirements. Basically what the government is trying to do is to limit the sale of any illegal weapons such as military-style ones, such as assault rifles, machine guns or any weapon with a large magazine to citizens, as well as limit any sales to those who have a bad background. Gun control laws are put in place to ensure that those who sell guns sell them to appropriate citizens with clear records. In Johnson's (2008) article he writes: “Retail sales of firearms are highly regulated. Under the Gun Control Act of 1968, all retail gun sellers must apply for and maintain a federal firearms license (FFL refers to both the license and the licensee). These FFLs are permitted to purchase and receive weapons via common carrier from wholesalers, manufacturers, other FFLs, and private sellers. (Par. 14).
