Allah (SWT) created humanity and gave it an intellect. Man has been left free to choose his own goal, his own way of life, which will lead him towards the right path, the path of obedience to Allah (SWT) or the path of misery, the path of disobedience and sin towards Allah. (SWT). Allah (SWT) has sent down a set of “Shariah” laws for humanity to follow. Submission is unconditional obedience to Allah (SWT) and it is everyone's duty to follow Islamic laws. A believer of Allah (SWT) who submits to the religion of Allah (SWT) Islam knows that for every action he performs in this world, he is responsible to his Creator. A slave of Allah (SWT) should, therefore, understand the laws of Islam (Shariah) to lead a life accordingly, which is acceptable to his Creator. He should, therefore, be able in his personal practical life as well as in his relationships with others to have knowledge of Islamic laws in order to know what to do and what not to do in whatever circumstances he finds himself in. Now in order to have knowledge of all this you need to have a complete knowledge of Islamic Laws. One must know what pleases Allah (SWT) and what causes His displeasure. If the laws of Islam had been clear and easy to understand, regarding what is obligatory, forbidden and permissible, it would have been very easy for a person to lead his life as he sees fit. It is very difficult for a lay person to make a decision based on understanding Islamic law. Sometimes the laws seem complicated and in these cases we need guidance. In the times of the Holy Prophet (SAW) people living in the immediate vicinity used to hear the laws directly from the Holy Prophet (SAW) and fully understand the texts. The family and companions of the Holy Prophet (SAW) observed this. They shared with others exactly what they had seen in the words and behavior of the Holy Prophet (SAW). For example, how he performed his ablutions, how he prayed and how he performed other acts of worship. If they had any questions, they should not have questioned the law as it came directly from the Holy Prophet (SAW) about whose veracity there was no doubt.
