Battle between Good and Evil in Dr. FaustusThe story of Dr. Faustus represents the constant battle between good and evil. Every day we are faced with the choice between the two, even if it seems like there is no solution. Faust, in the story Dr. Faustus, represents those who choose to stoop to a lower level to get what they want. The good angel and the bad angel are the morals that separate Faust's soul, forcing him to make a decision that can affect his future. The story Dr. Faustus is a great example of how one bad decision can cause an eternal burn. In the story Dr. Faustus, there is an ongoing battle between good and evil. Faust is a man desperate for power and control. He wants to do whatever he wants and control whatever he wants to control. It is there that Mephistophales, a bloodsucking devil, appears, preying on Foust and his confused soul. Mephistophales was in heaven and was kicked out. His soul is burning and so he desperately wants to take Foust's soul with him. Misery loves company. Faust wants power when he states "I command you to serve me as long as I live. To do whatever Faustus commands." (Act 1, scene 2, lines 33-34). While Faustus demands his power, Mephistophales is unhappy in hell. He wants Faust's soul and the two make a trade. Meanwhile the good angel appears. The good angel is trying to convince Faust to abandon this madness, because he should read the Bible, rather than the magic book. When it seems that the angels have arrived at Faust, the devils appear. It is an insult to the evil angels to hear the name of Christ in their presence. While the good angels tell him to repent, the bad angels make him taste pure hell. (p48) Highlight the seven deadly sins. (48) Lucifer, meanwhile, has worked his magic, and Faust signs the dotted line. It's over. The seven deadly sins represent the agony of hell. Faust has now become the eighth. Now he became as evil and manipulative as Mephistophales. Now he was damned forever. Temptation is society's worst enemy. When challenges arise, everyone wants answers, even if it means taking the wrong path. A great example of Faust in our society is robbery.
