Civilian populations could not be bombed, even if there were military reasons behind it. However, some argue that because the United States was not a member of the League of Nations, its laws did not apply. Furthermore, arguments were raised that the League of Nations was dissolved in 1939, before the atomic bombs were created, but this is irrelevant. Even more, the League did not ban nuclear weapons. (Barnes, 2013) In this regard, one might argue that because America likes to be the example of how to run a country for everyone else in the world, one would think that the United States would consider atomic bombs to be horrible. You might also think that since America would never want any other country to drop atomic bombs, they wouldn't do it themselves.
