Topic > Cause and Effect of Bullying - 1424

We have seen many causes of bullying, but another important cause of bullying is ethnic origin. Research has also shown that different ethnicities are affected in different ways mentally. Research conducted among several high school students showed that more than half of the students had been victims of bullying in the past year. The results showed that Hawaiians were the most likely to binge or use marijuana due to bullying. Furthermore, Samoans were the most likely to feel bad about themselves when they were victims of cyberbullying (Goebert). This sample of students showed us that, depending on your ethnicity, you will react to bullying differently. Another important piece of data gleaned from this experiment is that Filipinos experience the highest level of depression and, not surprisingly, Filipinos have the highest rate of suicide attempts. This shows the different effects on different teenagers and the severity of attempting suicide, a common result of bullying. To broaden the research on ethnicity and its relationship to bullying, I examined the research of Aubrey Spriggs. According to Spriggs, black students are less likely to interact with their parents about what happens in their daily lives than white children. He also says black victims of bullying are more likely to be socially marginalized. The exact ratio of black children to white children being bullied is 1.89 (Spriggs). This means that the number of black children who are bullied compared to white children is almost double. This research by Spriggs and his team shows that black children are more susceptible to bullying because of the color of their skin and because many times they are social outcasts. This helps me conclude my point that ethnics… in the center of the card… are mentally destroyed and attempt suicide. In conclusion, bullying must be controlled and awareness must spread. The negative impact it is having on adolescent mental health increases every day we allow them to grow. Research shows that bullies are not the only ones to blame because many times schools or parents have not told them what is right and what is wrong. Many people are unaware of the mental consequences it has. These consequences include depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, sleep deprivation, and even gun violence. Additionally, bullying affects different people differently, which increases the difficulty of identifying when a student is being bullied. Different genders and different ethnicities react to bullying in different ways. To say the least, bullying is a growing problem and is having a serious impact on the mental health of teenagers.
