My essay is about the speech given by Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth, the speech has a mysterious atmosphere and therefore perfectly reflects the personality of Lady Macbeth. I guess Shakespeare was trying to show Lady Macbeth's dark personality through her speaking rather than acting and that's why the speech has a sinister feel about it. Her speech concerns the arrival of her victim, Duncan, who she intends to kill in order to get what she wants. Shakespeare was a very talented writer who managed to tell us that Lady Macbeth was drunk with power simply by using words. One of the main characteristics of Lady Macbeth's soliloquy is anthropomorphosis. This is demonstrated in “The crow itself is hoarse,” which is the first line of his soliloquy. Anthropomorphosis is used to try to help us imagine the scene in our mind. Anthropomorphosis is where an animal takes on the quality of a human, for example the crow takes on the human quality of shortness of breath. This suits the speech as it shows that the messenger (crow) has come a long way to tell her the great news of Duncan's arrival...
