In this situation, it is important to establish ethical standards that everyone abides by, so that everyone and every organization is on the same page. For example, in high school I worked at a restaurant, The Farmhouse, where I opened and closed shop. This gave me responsibility for all the money the restaurant earned that night, while still having access to our restaurant's safe. They entrusted this privilege to only a few people to avoid theft. While I have never stolen from the restaurant safe, there have been issues in the past with workers losing the combination to the safe and having money stolen. After this event, the owners held a mandatory meeting where they re-informed every staff member about the restaurant's ethical policies. Without standard ethics policies, the thefts could have continued and harmed the company even more. If our owners couldn't trust our ethics, they would have to do everything themselves or watch over us like hawks. When I was given this new assignment, I felt obligated to follow the ethics policies and was motivated to work harder because I knew they trusted me to do the job fairly and correctly. Without standard workplace ethics, there will be mistrust and misconduct within the company that will only further harm the company
