This article will examine the group work practice of the pilot group work program initiated by Youth Center (Jurong) - “Girls United” from four perspectives: ( a) Model of teamwork practice, (b) leadership and co-leadership style, (c) activity planning and (d) approach to teamwork. This article will conclude with my “Personal Reflection on Group Dynamics.” Group Work Practice Model As mentioned in our group report, Girls United is a group work practice that combines both the corrective model and the reciprocal model. However, in my opinion, the corrective model may not be suitable for the program, as it emphasizes its usefulness in removing adverse conditions of individuals and changing their behavior, but it is rather unrealistic to achieve within 8 weekly sessions, and the fact that members can have very different problems and severities increases the difficulty of implementation. (Konopka, 1963) Because sessions are time-bound, it is more appropriate for the social worker to place emphasis on strengthening members by providing information and skills, so that they remain with stronger coping skills even when the group ends. (Robert Glass, 1968) However, I recognize the disadvantages of this model which rejects the diagnosis and treatment of individual problems, therefore making it difficult to evaluate whether the sessions are successful in helping girls with psychological problems. (Whittaker, 1970) Therefore, I suggest that in addition to formulating the group based on the reciprocal model, the social worker can identify individuals who need additional attention during the activities and subsequently provide help through therapeutic interventions at the end of the program. (Friedlander, 1958) So, as we conduct the paper, we will democratically decide which direction to go. Although no explicit rules were set, we implicitly agreed to take a democratic approach to decision-making, as we trusted each other that we all want to achieve the same goal and that we all have a high level of dedication. Because of this tacit agreement, none of us are afraid to give suggestions and feedback. I think majoring in social work has really helped us a lot to understand where each other is coming from. Although we have very different personality traits, our values and beliefs are very similar and we all have the basic knowledge of how to work in a team. To summarize, friendship has driven our team dynamic and is not only functional but also socially beneficial for us. “Meeting is a beginning. Being together is progress. Working together is a success. ”
