The Kevin Mitnick Affair was a very interesting case from the late 1900s. According to CNN, "Kevin David Mitnick - the world's most wanted computer hacker, inspiration for two films of Hollywood and cult hero of cyberspace - was supposed to go to trial on April 20 in Los Angeles in one of the most famous cases in history” (Christensen, 1999). The big question in Mitnick's case was: Does Mitnick really have a case? Or are his constitutional rights being violated? Kevin Mitnick led a life of crime from an early age. At the age of 12, Mitnick figured out how to hack and modify the punch cards of the Los Angeles bus system of Los Angeles buses, reverse-engineered the system allowing him to cheat the bus system and ride for free (Brown). This was not enough for the young Mitnick. At age 16 Mitnick began hanging out with a group of teenagers involved in hacking into different systems, number redirection, and high-tech prank calls (Brown). One prank that Mitnick and his friends played regularly was to hack into the telephone book (411) and when people called they would make up a phony or fake number to tell the callers.
