Bad experiences are a part of life and we all go through them at some point. Many people turn to some form of religion in difficult times; in this essay I will analyze the guidance and support that Christian teachings give to people in need. The first example of suffering in the Bible is that of Jesus. He suffered the ultimate sacrifice of death to save humanity from dying for their sins. This provides a comparison for someone who is grieving; shows that no matter how bad that person's suffering is, it is nothing compared to the suffering that Jesus experienced. The Bible also says that we should be happy to suffer just as Jesus did, "be happy to share the sufferings of Christ so you will be happy and full of joy when Christ comes again in glory." When they insult you because you follow Christ, you are blessed, because the glorious spirit, the Spirit of God, is with you.' This teaches us that we should be proud of being Christians and not worry about the suffering this might bring us. The resurrection of Jesus also gives hope to a needy person as it tells them that the suffering is only temporary and that it will end. The Bible teaches that God is in control of the universe and everything that happens in it; this means that God has the power to relieve people from suffering and make them better people because of it. This links to a piece of literature that could help many people in difficult times in their lives, this is a poem called "Footprints". It tells of a man who dreamed of his life represented as a walk along a beach. He sees that the Lord walks with him. In the most difficult moments of his life there is only one set of footprints and he asks the Lord why he was abandoned in times of need. The Lord responds with, 'during your times of trial and suffering, when you only see a set of footprints, that's when I carried you.' This poem shows that those who believe in Christ will never be alone and will always be helped in their suffering. This could be of great help to people in need as it shows, once again, that there is an end to suffering and that with God's help people can overcome times of trial.
