Historical JesusThis article is an analysis and reconstruction of Jesus the man, to meditate on the human life of Jesus Christ. History shows that he was a real person, and this essay will examine important aspects of the historical Jesus of Nazareth as the disciples knew and understood him. So basically looking at Jesus as a real person who lived his life in Palestine, specifying the historical situation and the different religious groups of the time. This essay will also highlight Jesus' beliefs, the person he claimed to be, and the reason behind his actions and thoughts. By providing a historical nucleus of important facts and events from his life up until his scandalous death, it will be possible to reconstruct a portrait of Jesus in the Jewish society of his time. The land where Jesus carried out his mission was called Palestine, which today is part of the modern state of Israel. Rome was then a city-state, ruling vast tracts of land around the Mediterranean Sea, including Palestine. The family of Herod who ruled Palestine during the life of Jesus were originally from Idumea, a southern province of Palestine. At the time of Jesus' birth, Palestine was governed by the Roman vassal king Herod the Great, who in fact attempted to kill Jesus when he learned of his existence (Aulen, G.1973). Writing about the life of Jesus and the historical events that occurred in his time can prove difficult since the gospels that were composed were more of a collection of writings that occurred independently of each other rather than a simple chronological biography of Jesus. In this sense it would be impossible to produce a biography of Jesus; however this does not prevent the possibility of reconstructing, through historical facts, the outlines of the character... at the center of the card... at a cross. He was crucified between two thieves and died (Knox, J. 1967). Even just by looking at the historical facts and events of Jesus' life we can see the importance of this figure and the consequences of his existence. However, the historical Jesus cannot simply and fully identify the nature of Jesus. Jesus Christ needs to be looked at with faith to understand the true nature of his ways and the purpose of what he accomplished in his life. BIBLIOGRAPHY Comblin, J. (1976) Jesus of Nazareth.
