Topic > The Harm of Animal Testing - 1115

Throughout history, animal testing has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and benefits for humans. However, what many people forget is the large number of animals that have suffered serious harm during the animal testing process. Animal testing is the use of animals in biological, medical, and psychological studies. The development and improvement of medical research has been based on animal testing. There are many questions being asked whether or not animal research is good or whether the benefit to us is much greater than animal abuse. Testing on animals can help find ways to cure diseases, but testing on them is wrong. Even though we want to find cures for diseases to help many people, testing on animals not only brutally hurts them but also denies animals the rights they have. January 1, 1959, WMS Russell and RL Burch describe how there shouldn't be much animal testing. Russell and Burch publish “The Principles of Human Experimental Technique,” which introduces the principles of refinement, reduction, and substitution called the three Rs. Reduction explained that people should use fewer animals in experiments. Substitution explained the use of non-animal alternatives to animals whenever possible. Refinement explained how people should use the techniques to alleviate or minimize invasive procedures that could potentially cause pain, suffering or distress, and to improve the welfare of animals still in use. Animal testing has been going on for a long time, and even some people have tried to help animals endure less extreme conditions during testing.
