Aristotle stated that “human beings cannot achieve happiness, or even anything close to happiness, if they do not live in communities that promote good habits and provide the basic equipment for a life well lived” (Kraut, 2014). I think this statement shows a clear connection between my cultural identity and how cultural identity impacts social responsibility. Every value, every belief, who I am and everything I do comes from my cultural identity. And all these things contributed to my sense of social responsibility. My desire to help people and be there for others in times of need comes from my family, my community and where I come from. The saying “it takes a village” is definitely how I grew up. We made sure that people in the entire community were taken care of. And this is a principle I still practice today. This also brings with it the religious part of my cultural identity. Loving others as I love myself and practicing God's commandments as a Christian also fosters my social responsibility. Additionally, involvement in voter elections, community monitoring, and other activities stems from my cultural identity in terms of race and gender. For me, I believe my cultural identity is one of the things that motivates my social responsibility. I don't think I can dissociate any of my life experiences in terms of social responsibility. My cultural identity is what helps build the morals and ethics I live by; and that morality and ethics are what guide me in my obligations by contributing to making my community and society as a whole better
