Topic > Harry Potter against Christians - 1827

Who has never dreamed of witches, broomsticks and the light of the full moon? I always wished, when I was younger, that I could transform and do magic like a witch. I also bought some little magic kits, but it was nothing like the magic I wanted to produce. During my teenage years, a book called Harry Potter caught my attention. It took me into a world that I thought could only belong to my head. JK Rowling brought descriptive words into my dreams and brought out the little witch and the little wizard in the lives of many children. I couldn't find a more descriptive, memorable, imaginative, and well-written book for both children and adults to read and enjoy. Why do so many Harry Potter fans reread these fantasies again and again? Are there secrets that gradually reveal themselves? Are there layers and layers of understanding peeling away? Do the images get richer every time? The magic remains; whatever the reason, readers are motivated to read, then again, and then again, and immerse themselves in the fun world of the written word. First as books, but now as films, video games, and a multitude of toys, Harry Potter has become a major part of modern popular culture. The Harry Potter books, written by JK Rowling, have come under constant attack from Christians due to the way they portray witchcraft. It has been said that the Harry Potter books encourage children to accept a view of witchcraft that is benign, even good, and will therefore lead them to adopt some form of paganism or Wicca. Christians naturally oppose this and... the middle of the paper... is structured on comforting stereotypes and does not upset preconceptions. If it is true that the Harry Potter books are ideologically conservative and, furthermore, exploited by conservative corporations for their own profit, then both the books themselves and the broader cultural phenomenon need to be read more critically. It would be inappropriate to take them at face value.
