If it were a man looking at the sandwich in the ad instead of a woman, it would change the way many people think about the ad. Since the advertisement has a woman as the main point, it is more in the "cultural norm" because women are used a lot in advertisements to sell things using good looks and sex. But if it were a male the focal point of the advert it would mean the same thing, but deep down it would be different. Since the hidden meaning of the ad is sex, if the male was exchanged for the female and became the main point of the ad, the ad would represent homosexual sex rather than heterosexual sex. With the controversy over gay marriage, the reaction to advertising would change dramatically and the main selling point of sex would become the advertising of advertising.
