Human Resource Management Human resource managers are responsible for ensuring that a company's employees are aligned with the organization's overall goals. This is not a simple process and requires attention to several aspects of the business process. Human resources must address legal issues, planning, recruitment, selection, development and training, compensation, safety and health, and labor relations. When management is able to combine all of the elements listed above, they will then be able to maximize the overall mission of the company. EEO and Affirmative Action When considering human resources management, a good place to start would be to focus on the corporate legal environment. Following business law carefully is extremely important for businesses, especially due to the financial implications associated with employee lawsuits. “Defending against legislative violations can take a lot of time, energy and money at an organizational level (Youssef, C. 2015).” It is also important to realize that these laws and workers' rights were put in place to protect workers from abuse and mistreatment. Employees who feel like they are not being treated properly become discouraged, which results in decreased productivity. Therefore, adhering to the legislation not only saves companies money by avoiding having to resort to lawsuits, but will also increase employee productivity and efficiency. These increases resulting from worker satisfaction will also show a significant increase in production and revenue. The organization responsible for investigating and enforcing any case of employee discrimination is called the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or EEOC for short.
