It is written from the point of view of Rose, a senior student who faces several challenges throughout the story. She is accompanied by her two best friends, Charlie and Olivia. The story portrays Shakespeare's play “Romeo and Juliet” in a completely different light. “When You Were Mine” is told in the current time period, while Shakespeare's work was published in 1597. The time difference creates a drastic change from Shakespeare's work, but it is believed that the author intended it . This review will critique the novel's plot, readability, and its ability, if any, to keep the reader intrigued. Although this book was not created based on an original idea, it still has an original twist. Being able to read the story through a different character's point of view intrigues the reader.
