The Perks of Being a WallflowerCharlie is fifteen and just starting high school. The book is written in letters to an anonymous person in which he explains his experiences in high school, his family life and his new friends. Charlie starts talking about his middle school friends, how one of them committed suicide and the other stopped talking to Charlie. Then he talks about his family consisting of his father, his mother, his older brother and his sister. Charlie also mentions another relative, Aunt Helen. He only saw her during the holidays and she was by far his favorite relative. However, Aunt Helen was in a terrible car accident and died. Later we meet Charlie's new friends, Sam, Patrick, Mary Elizabeth and Bill. Charlie often hangs out with Sam and Patrick at the Big Boy. Charlie met Patrick at a shopping class and met Sam at a football game. Bill on the other hand is his advanced English teacher.
