When I was younger, I remember begging my mother in every toy aisle of the department store to at least buy one hot wheel car of my choice. I had a problem; I had an incessant thirst for these little cars in those recyclable blue cardboard and plastic packages. I pretended to be a small person, small enough to fit in the nice cars I bought with just a glimmer of hope that maybe I could get in and drive away. This never happened, however, but I had an indomitable dream. I had the patience that maybe one day I could drive my real car. I'm nineteen now and my passion for cars hasn't changed at all. I'm finally old enough to drive, but I still feel like I'm even younger; Stuck in the store in a hot wheel aisle trying to decide which car I should buy. I look at today's cars to notice that even though the essential elements of a car never change, essentially four wheels and some sort of engine to move, something is different about cars that are in the present than they were when I was a child. Today, the growing concern about global warming is influencing people's mindset. Cars emit more than 333 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. (Ginovieto) In the United States, and in other countries such as Europe, there is a shortage of fossil fuels that threatens the future of the automotive industry. Gas prices have hovered at all-time highs. The consumer automobile market is continually growing. Many countries are industrializing at a rapid pace, such as China, and the demand for automobiles and transportation has also increased. All these problems influence each other to add and combine into bigger problems.
