There have been many cases where companies adhering to the highest security standards have violated security measures after bribing regulators. These cases have resulted in loss of life. An example of such a tragic incident was the 1999 earthquake in Turkey, which caused the death of 18,000 people and left 200,000 civilians homeless (Lagunes, 2012, p. 808).
