Mass communication and technology control the world we live in today. Everywhere you look there are kids on gaming systems, teenagers on phones, and adults on laptops; there is nothing that can be done about it. But this technological revolution is not a complete disadvantage if used to our advantage. The technology of our time has the ability to extend the possibilities of human life and communication. Previously, sending a letter or making a phone call took time and money. Now a simple email is enough. To understand the culture and meaning of another place a person had to physically travel there. Now, with a simple click of the mouse, a person can be on the other side of the world in an instant. People of this time have access to vast amounts of information at their fingertips. This in itself is a huge step towards global connection. Yet, instead of taking advantage of the possibilities that technology offers us, we let them go to waste. As the world becomes a smaller, more connected place, being globally aware becomes much more important. It is one of the fundamental things a person must do to understand and have a place in the world today, and as Americans, it is one of the things we miss most. We, as a people, must re-educate ourselves, as well as teach future generations, to be prepared for the growing global economy, and the best way to do this is to utilize today's worldly connections and technology. The world has changed. It has evolved, and Americans must evolve along with it. The population has increased so rapidly and dramatically over the past few decades, but it's not just America; in fact, America's relative population is becoming minuscule.
