Topic > Essay on Learning Outside the Classroom - 1372

An article on childhood development forcefully states: “To make sense of the world around them, young adolescents, as learners, rely on their individual experiences and on previous knowledge. they tend to be curious about adults and are often keen observers of adult behavior” (Caskey). When we are born we can do nothing but observe to learn. Family, peers, and even our pets teach us so much and shape us to become complex adults. I have never had any doubts that I would be who I am today without my friends and parents. We must be careful in choosing who our friends will be, for you will be shaped by them. “The social environment is perhaps even more crucial to a young person's future development” (Csikszentmihalyi). The social environment around them for teenagers changes the way they think because we learn from others and our surroundings. Even the music we listen to can influence the way we speak, because once again we learn from what is around us. The younger we are, the more vulnerable we are to influences and we can absorb and act on what we have learned from the media, friends, etc., “Young adolescents are also socially and emotionally vulnerable due to media influences” (Csikszentmihalyi) . Even shows like "Keeping Up with the Kardashians", "Real Housewives of Orange County", "portray" a real life, and children perceive that this is how you should and act in everyday life. Could you imagine the next generation behaving like the people on those reality shows? Clearly, everything in the world can impact you or others, we are constantly learning from others and even from ourselves
