In the media report selection process, many forms of media were considered, including; news, news articles and website pages. With many areas to consider, a great deal of research and contemplation has gone into it. Ultimately, two news articles were selected that displayed a variety of opinions and discussion topics related to community service in secondary schools. Both articles were interesting and relatable to the Chapman students. The first article selected is titled “New Study Reveals High School Students Are More Career-Oriented Than College Students.” The article was written by Vicki Salemi and obtained online from Media Jobs Dailey. The primary audience for this article is the Americas, high school and college students, as well as their parents. Supporters of this media include anyone who believes that high school students should participate in community service. The article discusses some of the reasons why high school students are being proactive in community service, and it is helpful for primary audiences to be aware of this growing interest. For this article in particular, it was relatable to my peers because it discusses community service not only in high school, but how it relates to college. Finding a media source that integrated the focus of secondary education with future aspirations was one of the key factors in selecting the news article. The second selected article was retrieved from the San Jose Mercury News online. “Today's High School Students Face Many Pressures, But Still Make Time for Community Service” by Carol Rosen provided readers with several interviews conducted by public and private high school students in the San Jose area. The primary audience for this news article...half of the newspaper...expand your search for articles. While the articles chosen were appropriate for the project, it would have been helpful to gather as many perspectives as possible. This would have provided greater confidence in knowing the many ideas presented by the media. Works Cited1. Babbie, Conte (2001). The practice of social research (9th ed.). Belmont: Wadsworth.2.
